Hmmmm, me thinks this looks like a set up.

Welcome to the board. I don't think you should really expect an answer to that question. But your music related questions will be answered by the members of the board here.

So, ask away with your music related questions or go to the SoapBox for other than music related questions. But I think questions of a personal nature like you just asked are not appropriate.

I wasn´t really waiting for and answer , because I dont´t really care about the answer , it´s been given in all his posts , but that is exactly what surprised me , how much of his personal nature someone can give in a public forum like this , and how personal it gets between people discussing just about music . thanks for your reply anyway

JM, I`m just wondering:

1)If you don`t like "personal" statements, then you should not get into that kind of criticism - you are being "personal" too. You don`t need to waste your time by reading things you don`t like: skip his posts.

2)If you`re not waiting for an answer, then you should not be writing in an open internet board. But I`m sure you know that people will answer you.

3)If you don`t like how things get personal when some people discuss "just about music", why don`t you post only stuff related to music or violin playing/teaching? By doing this, you will contribute to make this board more "technical" and less "personal", and I appreciate that.

well I certainly had no desire to make this thread into a suckage factor. I think more people should just stick to the topic, and leave he insults behind, and not say "oh I can play this piece better than you" or other things along those lines.

Good idea. However, some people just feel the need to reassure themselves of their skill. I've come across many a fine violinist who has great skill but has to convince him or herself of it over and over, as if they aren't sure yet.

Sorry for digging up an old disputable thread...

This is because I recently found (again, actually) a recording of the Ernst Erlkonig here:

Of course I'm sure any violin lovers who have been to mp3.com know about Skwortsow, but I didn't listen to his Erlkonig carefully until recently. I find it much more lyrical but no less virtuosoic than Repin or Josefowicz's renditions. Man, this guy is amazing. Many of his clips are badly recorded, but I'd say 50% of what's up there match if not surpass many of the best players today. I'd like to hear what the experienced violinists of the board would say about the Erlkonig.

As you can see earlier in my posts here, I fully intend to post my entire unedited unaltered version of this work up. But I've got much more pressing priorities right now.

This piece is entirely playable, EVERY NOTE. I'll prove it myself.

Sorry guys, my intention of reviving the thread is to ask about Skwortsow's playing... I honestly hope that it wouldn't reignite any of the old messy personal debate.

Even Kobe Bryant got booed mercilessly in his home town of Philadelphia during this year's All-Star game.

Besides, the flames just make me practice HARDER. People like JM are making me STRONGER, not weaker!

MuOn, I'm working 4 part time jobs.

I'm also preparing for a recital in June of all unknown music from the turn of the century and early 20th century.

None of this music is atonal. Most of it would be what's called "student fare". It all comes from that 20 lb $10 box I bought 2 years ago.

For example, one of my pieces is Cadman's "Land of the Sky Blue Water". I intend to use that to close my concert. There are 13 full length recitals in that box, and I'm trying to figure out which one to use.

Since I'm an old school player, I intend to memorize everything. This takes time away from Erlking, which I don't mind.

After all, I've gone through a year in which I learned all 24 Paganini Caprices, Duet for Solo Violin, Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento, Caprice d'Adieu, and Moto Perpetuo (with repeats). I've had enough finger gymnastics and guitar harmony for now.
