lwl Posted August 13, 2001 Report Posted August 13, 2001 What new works seem to be entering the repertoire? Interestingly, of the contemporary compositions that are now entering broader play -- meaning by students and the like, as well as on the major concert stage -- the first two that pop to mind are both by John Williams, and both are derived from film scores -- the Three Pieces from Schindler's List, and the Devil's Dance based on the score to The Witches of Eastwick. I also suspect that Corigliano's Red Violin will enter wider play as soon as the Chaconne becomes available. Any thoughts on this, or other contemporary works for stringed instruments?
shantinik Posted August 14, 2001 Report Posted August 14, 2001 The Violin Concerto by John Veale (newly recorded in England) is gorgeous!
