Janeiac Posted April 13 Report Posted April 13 Hello maestros, I’m new here. Does this viola (T2 lot 64) look like one of those European workshop instruments from Schoenbach etc? Where and when was it likely made, and does it look halfway decent? Looks ok to me for an advancing student, what do you think? T2 says “good condition.” Does anything jump out at you? https://t2-auctions.com/auctions/lot/?cpid=4348215296&csid=2200715264
stern Posted April 14 Report Posted April 14 If you are looking for a playable viola for under $2000 you probably can’t go wrong. T2 is full of things like that with spurious labels.
Janeiac Posted April 14 Author Report Posted April 14 That’s my thinking, yes. It got me wondering which shop likely made it, though. I know enough to select a playable instrument, but not enough to differentiate the minutiae of features such as varnish style/color, f-hole shape, etc. Thanks for chiming in!
