Alto Ego Posted March 25 Report Posted March 25 I’ve never seen a scroll like this before and was wondering if this style was exclusive to a region (in this case Naples)? https://app.amati.com/en/auction/1133-amati-specialist-1st-april/29-a-viola-by-tomaso-eberle-naples-circa-1760
gbup Posted March 26 Report Posted March 26 He has regular scrolls on his violin, but it seems like all viola have that style scroll (quick google can pull up a few). My guess is it is a less a regional topic versus a decision by the maker to try and make the instrument more comfortable - which a lighter scroll is one common option.
Pluto Vermin Posted March 27 Report Posted March 27 I've seen it here and there. https://www.givensviolins.com/stradivari-viola-damore-pt-2/
