Powdered rosin

Anybody have a source for finely powdered rosin or a satisfactory way to make it? I used to be able to buy Geipel rosin in a shaker can but no one seems to have it now. When I try to make it myself with a mortar and pestle rosin gets all over the shop and when it finally gets fine enough the powder starts sticking together and packing itself into a solid again! Help!

We use a cheap electric coffee-spice grinder.

I put the rosin in a folded paper and use a hammer.

I remember Lynn Hannings saying that she used the same rosin as the Red Sox.

Similar except I use a rolling pin then tip the resin through a tea strainer and roll the larger pieces again until done.

Interesting! I will try that also. In my experience paper or cloth will puncture from the sharp larger pieces and leak coarse gritty pieces long before the fine dust that I am looking for is achieved.

Th coffee/nut grinder works well and mimimizes dust. I’ve done it with mortar and pestle, but the grinder is faster. It can also be used to grind resins for varnish making.

Coffee grinder.  But you will need to clean it out with a solvent.  Rosin will stick inside like crazy.
