Spelman Posted October 4, 2025 Report Posted October 4, 2025 Just read on Violinist.com that Andy Victor has passed. Super nice and helpful guy in all my interactions with him. Turned me on to Coda bows back in the '90s and Arcus bows in the '10s. RIP, Andy.
Jacobus Drainer Posted October 4, 2025 Report Posted October 4, 2025 I always enjoy reading his insights on bows. He had long, long experience and his writings on here go back 25+ years. https://www.google.com/search?q=andrew+victor+bows+site%3Amaestronet.com
Dwight Brown Posted October 4, 2025 Report Posted October 4, 2025 I’m very sorry to hear about this may his memory be a blessing. DLB
mezzopiano Posted October 4, 2025 Report Posted October 4, 2025 I'm so sorry to hear this. I've admired his insight on early carbon fibre bows in his old posts and I've always since paid extra attention when I came across posts by him. It's sad to know that there won't be any more, that he is no longer with us. RIP, Andrew
Rue Posted October 5, 2025 Report Posted October 5, 2025 That's very sad. I hope he gets to enjoy a lot of musical adventures in the next chapter. https://www.marinij.com/obituaries/andrew-c-victor-san-rafael-ca/
Daviolin Posted October 5, 2025 Report Posted October 5, 2025 I'm sad to hear this. I've always liked his inputs, from old threads to recent ones. My deepest sympathies to his family. Just checked his profile, he was online on the day he died... We never know when it can be the last time.
Chamberlain Posted October 7, 2025 Report Posted October 7, 2025 He was a knowledgeable and kind member here who will be missed. His knowledge and advice will continue to be helpful to many for years to come. He was kind enough to share his impressive bow calculations with me. I might need a master in physics, like him, to completely understand it, but thankfully he was helpful with explanations too. I enjoyed the story he shared with me about his favorite luthier friend, 89 yrs old, who had made some very special instruments for him over the years. He was also very proud of his family and their music too. He will be greatly missed. Thank you for sharing his obituary. I will look into a donation into the orchestra listed that he was a member of.
