Steelbeatinviolin Posted August 27, 2025 Report Posted August 27, 2025 I notice it had a neck graft, it looks like the violin could be before 1800. https://www.ebay.com/itm/317199568812
FiddleDoug Posted August 27, 2025 Report Posted August 27, 2025 This should be posted in the Auction forum, not here. I'm not going to bid on it. You can't really tell much from those crappy pictures, and it's probably the usual trash (not from before 1800).
Brad Dorsey Posted August 27, 2025 Report Posted August 27, 2025 It is definitely worth buying. The question is -- at what price? You have to decide how much it's worth to you and bid that amount.
Jeny Mahon Posted August 27, 2025 Report Posted August 27, 2025 Replaced top maybe? The photos are really awful though so it's hard to tell. It has a silver mounted bow with it, anyway.
Steelbeatinviolin Posted August 27, 2025 Author Report Posted August 27, 2025 I cound't tell if it was silver mounted bow or not. But I can tell there is a copper mounted bow in there. I don't want it, I am going to try buy a Artino Aria bow instead.
Steelbeatinviolin Posted August 28, 2025 Author Report Posted August 28, 2025 The hammer price was 4,488.00 USD. Oh, I did buy the Artino bow, and some Pro'Arte strings.

Violadamore Posted August 29, 2025 Report Posted August 29, 2025 Or maybe somebody likes "Anton Schuster" violins.....a circa 1900 Schönbach trade name that showed up again on student violins from Shar (a house brand?) dated in the 1960's and 70's. The screen shot below (with some emphasis from me) shows where the seller's ad gave the brand as "Anton Schuster" (anybody else notice this?) and used "Marked" for the label attribution. I wonder if the label says Schuster somewhere? I looked around some on the internet and found some Schuster "usuals" that matched the OP fiddle button, scroll turns, corners, and F wings pretty closely. In any event, IMHO, whoever bought the violin was very generous. https://maestronet.com/forum/index.php?/topic/228112-information-on-an-anton-schuster-violin/ https://maestronet.com/forum/index.php?/topic/281946-anton-schuster/

Steelbeatinviolin Posted August 30, 2025 Author Report Posted August 30, 2025 I did see it. It was in the ebay listing, it said right there the brand name. I was doubting it.
Blank face Posted August 30, 2025 Report Posted August 30, 2025 I haven't a clear idea what this vioin is/was (most probably 19th century Saxony), but it's definitely not a 20th century "Anton Schuster" trade thing. Could have a repair label, or the line was left from a template. One mustn't believe in anything what's written in Ebay ads, neither the heading nor description, or will end up completely lost in nonsense like what's written above.

It sold again yesterday for $4,850 so it must have been returned after first sale: https://www.ebay.com/itm/317367722957 With a 30 day guarantee, the buyer's only risk is the return postage.
Blank face Posted October 12, 2025 Report Posted October 12, 2025 At the new photos the violin looks much better and older than at the previous, so possibly they have a valuation for it and set a sort of hidden reserve. Might pop up later once again.
