Le Kim Tan Posted August 1 Report Posted August 1 (edited) Dear Maestros, This is a violin I was given, the giver said it was a valuable instrument, can you help me identify it? Thank you so much Edited August 5 by Le Kim Tan
deans Posted August 1 Report Posted August 1 In the world of violins its not particularly valuable. But it looks perfectly servicable and could be a decent player. Nice gift.

Vafan Posted August 1 Report Posted August 1 It is probably what the Rampal certificate says… A violin made, rather finished, in the workshop of the Laberte firm. Maybe bought in from Mirecourt. The real experts will tell you more, if they wish. A way better Instrument than that on what I started to play ;-)
Bratschist Posted August 2 Report Posted August 2 Am I being poisoned by the Maestronet? Even this instrument looks like a Markneukirchen to me! LOL
Le Kim Tan Posted August 2 Author Report Posted August 2 I really want to know how much this violin is worth, because I want to buy a gift worth that much for my friend.
martin swan Posted August 2 Report Posted August 2 I would strongly recomnend that you get in touch with Vatelot Rampal and ask them if they recognise that certificate. They are only an email away … i have never seen a Rampal “expertise” that looks like that, but maybe it’s a form they used to use for lower value instruments. i’m confused - were you given this instrument or are you thinking of buying it so you can give it?

A violin’s price can vary based on where, when, and how it is sold. For examples, an auction price will likely be different than a retail dealer’s price and a violin sold in New York city will likely cost more than the same violin sold in the rural mid-west. Your best route is to take it to an appraiser and pay for a written replacement-cost insurance or a fair market value appraisal. Note that replacement-value appraisals are often higher than fair market value appraisals. Having a written appraisal would be useful in case you ever needed to make an insurance claim for loss or damage.
deans Posted August 2 Report Posted August 2 I believe the OP just wants to buy a nice gift for the person who gave it to him. Assuming it doesnt have to be legally equitable, i would be looking for something in the ball park of 1K.

I was given this violin and don't want to be in debt so I will buy another gift of equal value as a thank you, this violin sounds pretty good too
