Given the short time before relisting, I'm guessing the first buyer didn't pay up.

Yup.  A charity, with a focus on finding employment for the disadvantaged.  https://www.goodwill.org/  A big business, too, that handles billions of dollars every year, mostly raised from selling donated items.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodwill_Industries  

It's sorta hard to characterize Goodwill overall, because it is a global nonprofit organization that locally has a networked structure made up of state and local charitable organizations, with "Goodwill" in their names, that differ in their practices.  The public, however, when putting stuff in their donation boxes, just sees "Goodwill", and the logo.  IMHO, as huge bureaucratic charities go, it does more good in the world than many seem to.

Also, prices for "high value" items like jewelry or violins will almost always approach retail.  This has become more prevalent over the last decade or so as the site was discovered.  It's because people are caught up in the idea that buying from a thrift / charity store means they're getting a steal.  And also maybe that the money is going to charity - but mostly the former!
