Tool edge angl question.

I hope to get confirmation on what I have believed for years about best edge angle. I believe 30 deg for maple, 21 deg for spruce.

I guess it depends also on type of steel and what tool edge we are talking about.

Absolutely depends upon quality of steel and how you intend to use it.

I don’t have dedicated spruce knives and maple knives. I use the thinnest angle I can have decent edge retention. Usually 25-30 degrees.

I don't have either, but in some cases when I know I'm going to slice spruce without use of much power I hone my chisel or knife at shallower angle than in case I know I'm going to do a bit rougher cuts or paring that may dull or chip the very edge. I don't measure angles, I use my palm and fingers as measure and/or hold the blade further from edge to get lower angle.
