Steelbeatinviolin Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 Here is the item. I was planning on buying one for myself and try it out. https://www.ebay.com/itm/388478581693
Don Noon Posted June 4 Report Posted June 4 Similar issues with pernambuco re: weight and carving difficulty. Maybe even worse with the coarse grain. 300+ years of maple history happened for a reason, I think.
Will Turner Posted June 4 Report Posted June 4 Lots and lots of experimentation over the centuries. Maple still comes out on top!

The heartwood of North American Osage Orange/ Bois d’Arc has been used as an ebony substitute for fingerboards and pegs for decades by violin makers and guitar makers. Some guitars have back and sides of Osage Orange wood. The colour starts out nice and ages even nicer. It will probably never need a CITES permit.

Reasons such as: Papal edicts, royal decrees, guild regulations, convention, tradition, habit, and desire to copy the sound of a favourite luthier or player - hardly objective reasons. Tonewoods other than spruce and maple aren’t better or worse - just different. And in this case, different is NOT a bad thing.

The wood of Aromatic Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana) has an aroma with beneficial effects on the human brain, and repels insects. Plus, as a coniferous hardwood, it’s vital statistics are close to that of Red Maple. And, it isn’t listed under CITES. What’s NOT to love?

That given, can you take the rest of their spiel seriously?

If would not be so far fetched to conclude that an AI bot has started it's own ebay account. I have noticed that they are everywhere these days. The future is here.
Steelbeatinviolin Posted June 5 Author Report Posted June 5 Then, I will not be getting the rose wood bridge. I was hoping it was good because of the price. Must be one of those sales gimmicks that get people to try it at least one time, just for the one time sales.
