How is this an appropriate response to the OP's simple question?

I noticed price increases for strings about a year ago, before the tariffs kicked in.

I have always been struck by the massive price difference between fiddle strings and mandolin strings. I understand that violin strings have some technical characteristics that drive up their cost, but ... gosh!

Of course I’m only a mid-level fiddler and not an accomplished violinist, so I do understand that my skill level prevents me from appreciating the qualities of the more expensive violin strings. And my $1200 fiddles -- wonderful though they are -- may not take advantage of top-quality strings. I use Prims on one fiddle and Helicores on the other.
