Dwight Brown Posted May 15 Author Report Posted May 15 I can say that the first violin of Mr. Matsuda’s that I played decades ago was a revelation. I’m extremely fond of mine that I have owned for about 15 or 20 years. I find it to be light years better than anything a Schlub like me deserves and I look forward to the day when it and its mates are put in the hands of young people who deserve them. The more I think on it the more I feel like letting go of all of them before I’m fertilizing some tree somewhere. I think it would be great fun to watch the kids try them out and make music rather than wait for my eventual demise. Thanks for the discussion folks. I suppose the actual value of the instruments is not that important as I doubt there would be much in the way of tax benefits for me and I have no desire to fence with the IRS over minutiae. I would be completely satisfied if the administration at my school would look the other way when my son scatters my ashes under the trees there. DLB

I guess that would put it around $26,000 retail? I thought it important to mention. The hammer price is not the final price. Add Tarisios 20% of the hammer for the buyer. Here is the final sale of that lot: High Bid:$17,000 Including Premium:$20,400 so by that math would retail be $40,800? That $35K one at Shar is looking like a steal!
