We have a situation with a nice old violin (no name, maybe English) with a stop length of 188 mm. The current string length is 322 mm. It needs a neck graft because the neck joint has failed, it's the original neck with an extended heel that has failed.

The question is, should we try to compensate the string length with the neck by making a slightly longer neck (131-132mm)? What do you restoration maestros think?

Or just stick with the standard 130 mm neck (which is what it is now.)

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

If it belongs to a customer, you will have to consult with them. If it belonged to me, I would make the neck 13, and try to get the bridge as near to 19,5 as possible, without looking ridiculous
