I just recently subscribed specifically to see that article. Everything in that article has been covered over and over again here on MN.  Of course here you have to do some searching through old discussions.

There is a lot of good info here on MN.  The best way to search MN is to use your favorite search engine.  For example, I'm struggling to get a good corner shape so I typed in 'corners site:maestronet.com'  in google and it brings up lots of links to corner discussions.   Whatever stage of a build you are interested in, you can search that way and get lots of good results.

So type in the thing you're looking for and then site:maestronet.com and will show results only from this site and specifically what you're searching for.   Hopefully that makes sense,  my google foo is strong.  heheh.

I read through every luthier related article that the Strad has online.   Some of them have some interesting tidbits of information but you will not learn to make a violin from it.

The one I like the best, and I bookmarked it for reference,  is making a homemade peg shaver.

Here's a link   https://www.thestrad.com/for-subscribers/trade-secrets-making-a-wooden-peg-shaper/18718.article

It's a magazine, so articles are going to be short and not in depth 'how to'.

If you want to learn to make a violin,  I highly recommend watching all the youtube videos of Davide Sora.   He is a master of the craft with decades of experience.

Also watch the videos of Lucas Fabro.  He doesn't go into as much detail as Sora's step by step but he does have some good ones.  Also he has a course which I have purchased parts of.

You can even watch my videos which are not meant to be instructional.  I just thought it would be fun to post my current build showing the whole process from start to finish, but I'm just a backyard hack working on my second build,  for entertainment purposes only.

Read a good book like 'The Art of Violin Making' by Courtnall and Johnson.  Send me a private message if you want the book.

@MikeC

Thanky you for your extended reply! much apprecieated when someone takes the time for extended responses. About the article.. yeah I was kinda disappointed by it. Not really much new information.

On the other hand, I am really curious about  @JacksonMaberry reply on his grounding techniques., when he gets around to it.

- about MN, yeah I sure did find the value of MN! I have been reading through this forum a long time now, but still I feel I have only scratche the surface. Your way of searching: site:maestronet.com, is new to me, and your explanation did indeed make sense, at least to me. So thank you. that will help a lot.

I never expected such, but "makingaviolin.com", MN, Davide Sora, and others" will hopefully get me there..  and yeah I did discover Davide's channel already long time ago. So I was very pleased to meet him here on the channel. I wasn't awar of Fabro's channel yet. so I will have a look. I did find Edgar Russ's channel though.. some of his video's are interesting too. And ofcourse I will have a look at your channel.. and subscribe of course ;)

Also thank you for your link to DIY pegshaver. very interesting! I will defenitely make myself one.

I haven't watch your channel yet, but from what I read from your comments. I can honoustly say that I feel that I should take your "backyard hack" comment with a large grain of salt ;)

Anyway.. thanks again!

and a PM is comming your way

Kind greats
