CJones Posted March 15 Report Posted March 15 This would be by far the best sounding fiddle I own. I bought it and another older unlabeled fiddle off a lady whose dad owned a music store in Dallas in the 70’s. I know for sure the label has been taken out because it has a sound post patch on the back that goes through where the label is. Lob 357. Upper 167.5. Mid 109. Lower 208. The eyes are set apart 44.2. All measurements with calipers. Very tight grain on the top. I tried to get the corner blocks with a dental mirror but it wasn’t great. I just kinda wonder if it is what it says it is? I love it and have no plans to get rid of it. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
CJones Posted March 17 Author Report Posted March 17 It must not be that interesting of a maker. I have never played a known valuable instrument but this one is noticeably nicer than anything I’ve played. I’m just an amateur fiddler but the difference is a lot. I only gave $150 for it so i got a sweet deal though it neeed strings and set up. I went to a local shop and they only had violins in the 3-5k range tops and it sounded much better than anything I played there. Anyway. Any info would be appreciated
Strad O Various Jr. Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 Genuine Heberleins were good instruments but by 1927 the quality had gone down a bit
