cha4kn Posted February 27, 2025 Report Posted February 27, 2025 Hello! I have got this violin and I wondered if anyone could say anything about its origin from the pictures I have provided. I am mainly interested in age, authenticity and maybe price range as well. I am also intrigued by the initials "P.M." that are engraved into the wood on the heel of the neck (backside). Does anybody know what it could mean and why it is engraved there? Best regards!

lFred Posted February 27, 2025 Report Posted February 27, 2025 Not a H.Derazey, Not a Laberte H.Derazey, not convinced it's french About 60 to 100 years old PM apocryph likely initials of a previous owner

Blank face Posted February 27, 2025 Report Posted February 27, 2025 A feature like the purfled lower rib at the end pin would point towards to the Mnk region; otherwise the construction looks a bit unusual for that, so I'm supposing either Czech or even Bubenreuth built with an outside mould and imitating the "French style". Isn't PM = Personal message?
