NVG Cellist Posted February 25, 2025 Report Posted February 25, 2025 It seems like I've seen a few cellos recently with a scooped out or scalloped side of the scroll, like this one: https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/199834665_antique-vintage-american-or-european-cello Does this suggest a time period when it was a trend and/or region, or after a maker? Anyone else come across these? I notice also that the lower pegbox is angled sharply up towards the back of the instrument. Thanks
deans Posted February 25, 2025 Report Posted February 25, 2025 Older "Bohemian" instruments and others, usually "through neck" construction and usually not higher grade. Here's a big old viola.
