germain Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 Any ideas on what it might be. I was thinking Mittenwald, Tyrol but then someone suggested Nürenberg possibly? It has an Italian label but the violin is much older than its label haha…
Brad Dorsey Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 I have no idea what it might be. Pictures might help.

Guido Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 Is it quite large? And do you have a pic of the end pin area?

Blank face Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 Looks to me like a nice older Salzkammergut violin. These started usually with an inked “purfling”, which in this case was at some point replaced with a real, which was left without varnish.

Very interesting... that explains the lack of varnish near the edges

germain Posted February 11 Author Report Posted February 11 I just showed the violin to one of the big experts. His first impression was “old French” could it be? I am more inclined to go with the Salzkammergut guess
