Screws in the underslide.

Obviously a indicator against French origin.

But some French makes used screws. Some of the early ones. And rumour has it, some of the younger ones, too.

Would a list be short enough to be compiled?

Screws are a feature of all Peccatte school bows (Dominique Peccatte, Henry, Simon) and almost all additional Vuillaume shop bows (other than very late ones).

For the 20th century, I have seen occasional gold Sartory frogs with screws, but the only maker I know of pre-1950 that often used screws was EA Ouchard (apart from his first period).

Not so much in maillechort mounted bows though
