I'm curious whether the sensitivities of the oversight committee are offended by that term. To avoid any misunderstanding I'm not criticizing, but I did have to block a user who was harassing me in pm about my terminology.

Well, that's the end of my interest in this matter.

There is NOTHING that one can do or say, without offending someone, somewhere. 6 hours ago, Dr. Mark said: It seems tribal standing carries with it a certain amount of immunity from harassment by the betas. Hasn't worked for me. I got an admonishing phone call recently from someone who reads here.

Equally bad. 1 hour ago, David Burgess said: I got an admonishing phone call recently from someone who reads here. Nice to know...oh, wait...sorry to hear it. Dang - that's one of those double-edged thingies. Thanks for your reply.
Randall The Restorer Posted December 20, 2024 Report Posted December 20, 2024 It is difficult to take seriously this list that excludes, or fails to include, Jacob Stainer and Austrian luthiers in general.

Largely depends on how ridiculous the proposition is, or how dull one edge of the weapon is.

Lists and charts and pyramids like this have led to genocide and over consumption of red meat and kale (depending on decade). I don’t want to know how this musicologist-eugenicist op classifies left-handed violins built by left handed luthiers

Joefiddle Posted December 22, 2024 Author Report Posted December 22, 2024 I dont know wether or where to start a new subject, any advice welcomed.. Any way, Luthiers Duties and Todays Workbench. What is the luthiers task or duty? 1.To meet his clients needs. Wants? 2. To do no harm. 3. Use the proper adhesives. 4. To not embarrass anyone. Keep going people…feel free to finish my list… Is there such a thing as; a luthiers hypocritical oath. Is a violin maker a luthier? I am a luthier. I repair lutes, guitars of every form and plumbing. I also fancy myself a “VIOLIN MAKER”. How can I prove it? Only with an unfinished instrument. Can you imagine having access to a half finished Stradivari violin? Once a violin is finished it seems to become its own entity. So, I shall forever have an unfinished fiddle on my desk, workspace, mantle or where ever I was last at task. All the tools are lined up for the next process. To cut or not to cut? An old saying…Ive cut three times and its still too short. Measure twice cut once…how about measure one hundred and thirty two times and cut once? People enjoy your craft!
Joefiddle Posted December 23, 2024 Author Report Posted December 23, 2024 Today’s bench….. the next cut I will have measured at least 100 times. Cutting into a perfectly good pegbox is unnerving. A gentleman on youtube effortlessly preforms a neck-graft in less than three minutes. Much like a sushi chef.
