PetuniasLudicrous Posted November 2 Report Posted November 2 Vox Populi, I bought an old French Bow with a bounced stamp "F.N. Voirin a Paris." Just under 80 grams, a bit well loved, strong and springy. Besides coming consigned from dealer I don't have any information on it. Checking against Tarisio it does look the part if anyone has anything to weigh in. Also the Frog rears up a bit when tightened and I might be a little worried about the resulting wear pattern on the stick. PL
martin swan Posted November 2 Report Posted November 2 Maybe it's the photos but this doesn't look much like a Voirin. Isn't it modern?
Brad Dorsey Posted November 3 Report Posted November 3 I also wondered if it might have passed through Metropolitan Music, because they distributed many bows -- both silver and nickel-mounted -- stamped F N VOIRIN A PARIS. But I think these were always also stamped GERMANY or FRANCE between the eyelet mortise and the end of the stick, which I don't see in the last picture of this bow. So, I doubt that it's a Metropolitan Music bow. 12 hours ago, PetuniasLudicrous said: ...the Frog rears up a bit when [the hair is] tightened... This could be caused by an out-of-adjustment eyelet or a mis-aligned or worn inner screw hole in the stick or possibly a few other things.

Definitely old and a bit worn most likely French. I was using my phone camera and perhaps downsized the images a bit much for uploading.
GeorgeH Posted November 5 Report Posted November 5 If you use a white background and suspend the bow over the surface so the shadow is not underneath it, you will get much better pictures.

The one that I have is simply stamped "F N VOIRIN" in the German style and Germany on the butt.
