Woolf9 Posted September 15, 2024 Report Posted September 15, 2024 (edited) Hi, Hope you are well. New to this forum so hope I've uploaded the correct photos. Please could someone advise on this bow? It is unstamped. I think it is a Markneukirchen trade bow c.1900? Mounts are silver nickel Silver/silk lapping 59.2g Edited September 15, 2024 by Woolf9
Guido Posted September 16, 2024 Report Posted September 16, 2024 I'd think it's a French trade bow from Mirecourt.

Woolf9 Posted September 16, 2024 Author Report Posted September 16, 2024 Thank you @Guido and @Gtone I don't know much about the distinction between the two, so it is good to hear opinions from people who do!
fiddlecollector Posted September 16, 2024 Report Posted September 16, 2024 Looks like an unstamped bow similar to JTL also reminds me a bit of F .Lotte.

Though one or two of them can appear at Markneukirchen, too, all together at once are pointing unvariably to a French bow.
GeorgeH Posted September 16, 2024 Report Posted September 16, 2024 I am not so sure it is from Mirecourt. The photos are not very good. The adjuster and/or frog don't seem to fit perfectly and may not be original to the stick. A double-ring button collar is not obvious from the photos. The stick appears to be octagonal. I'd like to see better focused and well-lit pictures, including the frog fit from the back and both sides, profile, top, and bottom pictures of the head, a picture of the button and screw without the end of the screw covered, and a picture of the mortice.
Woolf9 Posted September 16, 2024 Author Report Posted September 16, 2024 @fiddlecollector @Blank face @GeorgeH Thank you for your responses. Yes, I have taken some more photographs but I think they are only a little clearer than the last ones. I will upload anyway. @GeorgeH I hope I have got all that you asked for here:

Although your head pictures are taken against the neutral white background of the wall, you somehow managed to position the head exactly in front of the picture hanging on the wall, with the result that the shape of the head is mostly obscured.

GeorgeH Posted September 16, 2024 Report Posted September 16, 2024 Thanks for the extra pictures. The frog and button do look like they fit with the stick. The slide does not look tapered, but the double collar is there. The head looks French to me, too, so I agree probably Mirecourt.
