I'm far less concerned by the sound post, which I suspect is only held in place by rosin dust that got onto the inside surface of the back, than I am by all the damage which has taken place to the belly when removing the top.

Now there are more things to repair than there probably were in the first place. unhappyheadshake.gif.fdb6d5ccc96c5cb4e2b7add25fec8c6d.gif

How would you approach removing the top to insure less damage?

Top removal can go super easy to totally annoying depending on how it was last glued on.

This one was particularly firmly glued. Maybe 1 in 20 bad, or worse.

One trick that works well (which I didn’t bother doing here), is to run drops of alcohol down the blade into the joint as you work. It makes the glue crack more easily. Obviously, care is required to not damage the varnish.

No, you are wrong.

It is standing in a generous bed of rather strong hide glue.
