Mat Roop
What are the best (mid range price) violin strings for AEAE tuning?
duane88
if you use Helicore mediums for the upper strings and Helicore lights for the lower it will sound more balanced and feel more evenly tensioned, as well as being better for the fiddle. I know a couple of good fiddlers who use Evah uppers and Obligato lowers, but that isn't really a mid-range price set.

La Folia
D'Addario Zyex strings work well for that. Some strings have much shorter life if you tune them up a stop, but that doesn't seem to bother Zyex. Gut core strings are the old standby for that, but not many people want to tune them constantly.
