It is not a trademark; it is the name of the country where the bow was made.

Or not. Could be made in Germany and stamped to deceive after it was imported.

Is this something you've seen?

Reportedly, Juzek in New York did this; and if so, probably others just the same.

I mostly made the comment as what little can be seen in the photo doesn’t look very French.

Bows branded, "Leon Pique", in the French style, with "France" on the bottom facet as shown. I have 2.

I have.  I personally play with a "Voirin"  silver-mounted octagonal pernambuco bow from circa 1920's that's stamped "FRANCE" but is actually German.  They can be found in old Metropolitan Music catalogs, along with the Piques that @duane88 mentioned.  These bows have been posted on and discussed here before.  Some of them are very nice.  :)

Metropolitan also sold bows stamped EMILE DUPREE, FRANCE, that were made in Germany.  Some of these are also very nice.

OK - that's pretty sneaky!

I also have a later one, same crooked brand, as in crooked angle on the stick, that is branded, in itty-bitty letters, on the bottom facet of the butt, "made in Western Germany".
