My first two violins from my bench finally in the Varnish stage

Recommended Posts

Hi Ken, the spruce came from old standard wood right here in Missouri over in New Bloomfield, I purchased six violin sets 20 years ago they’ve been in my shop aging nicely. The fiddle I have in the background is a John Juzek 1926 master art that I am repairing. It is a model of Dominicus Montagnaus.

all the Varnish was peeling off, so I am in the process of also refinishing with new varnish

I really like the look of the bear claw spruce. I like grain that isn't even too. Very good wood choice. I need to pick better wood!

What do you have gluing up? A solid walnut violin?
