Peter K-G
I have often talked about Paganini with my family and friends, how his music has influenced a lot of tunes and children's songs we have heard. You may or may not like this modern version of Concerto 4 II mov. I think it's amazing how his compositions are up to date.
Don Noon
Paganini, Garrett... meh. Nichole Scherzinger is the star here.

Paganini was far ahead of his time. To me he is first mega Rock star in music history, talent, show man and scandals. You could call Garrett a modern version of Paganini but only because he knows how to fill concert halls. IMO he lacks demonic violinistic skills. In the past Szeryng, Grumiaux and Accardo (when he was at his peak) were great performers of Paganinis concerti. Accardo recorded all six (!) concerti and I learned from those recordings that behind all finger twisting acrobatics is always an operatic drama taking place. (On the first bars of each concerto you can hear how the curtain opens) I think Augustin Hadlich has the musical and technical skills for performing Paganini but I haven’t heard yet that he took interest in it. Deo Lawson
Very few violinists do Paganini well, but many *think* they do it really well. Most modern recordings are unlistenable in my opinion. For me Alexander Markov has the best take on the caprices, and Massimo Quarta on the concertos, by a mile. Michael Szyper
I could imagine that Paganini was struggling with his concertos as well, but since nobody was better, everybody was blown away.

Dennis J
Niccolo Paganini was the Jimi Hendrix of his time. I'm not sure if that is an original thought of mine only but I suppose it is an accurate one. But I also think the violin is more of a distraction than anything else compared to Nicole Scherzinger's lovely voice.

All testimonies from his contemporaries tell other stories. He could play everything on any instrument. (After practicing something like over 12 hours a day for over 10 years….. that’s over 40000 hours!! I believe that he could play all the stuff pitch perfect and in tempo. )

No. But this doesn’t exclude technical perfection. And I don’t think that the ‘Paganini-magic’ was with sloppy violin playing. I don’t think that you can develop all those technical skills (which were new back then) with no discipline.

From what I could find, he didn't get the Guarneri until 2020, and the video is given as 2016, when he was playing the 1723 Kiesewetter Stradivarius. I liked the sound (and playing) on the recording, and it was a solo with lots of notes everywhere, so I got a good FFT spectrum of the performance: Signature mode frequencies are about the same as several million other violins, at 276, 437, and 531 Hz. The higher stuff is where most of the action is, but also extremely sensitive to the recording and the piece played. Interpret at your own peril. Dr. Mark
Thanks Mr. Noon - I hope the recording and playback device responses are worthy of the music lol.
Dr. Mark
An album of Hadelich playing all 24 caprices was released some years ago, if youtube isn't your thing: https://wnrcl.me/hadelich
