violin identification

It looks nice, but a little worked over with tap marks that make little sense.  There are taps on the surface where the pegs would block wear.  Maybe the owner was grumpy and ambidextrous?

Can we see the extensively repaired side of the scroll?  The repair seems unfortunate, poorly done.  The scroll is quickly finished in the harder to reach areas.  The one corner looks nice.

Welcome to the forum!

IMHO, the usual Mark/Sch trade violin from circa 1900.  :)

That is what I thought also. This violin belongs to a client of mine who baught it from an auction where it was stated as a Mirecourt violin but I don't see indications that point towards Mirecourt.

I don’t think it is.

Purposely antiqued instruments of this level, rarely reflect accurately, how wear would develop. It’s just to give an impression of use/age.

Doesn't look like the usual to me at all, looks more French

Remember that these things were sold in a variety of grades of quality, ranging from "rough" to "Roth" (), at increasing price points.  This one probably wasn't cheap, to start with.  :)
