Bahri Bilir
Can anyone identify the wooden pegs on this antique cello ? The cello was purchased from an antique shop in Germany but does not have any markings to suggest where it is made. I appreciate any suggestions. Dave Slight
Your photo is such a low resolution, it’s hard to see any of the grain. From the colour, they look like a type of rosewood.
Bahri Bilir
Thank you Dave. You are right it is made of rosewood. My question is I wonder if this special shape of the peg may give us a clue about the cello maker or the region or the times ? I am a novice player, so I am happy with the cello and the sound. However, I have not seen a peg in this shape, so I was curious.

violinsRus
Visually quite pleasing, but likely to catch on something.
Andrew Victor
Yes, not only "eye-catching." Also tough on tuning from some hand angles. Frankly, I dislike any peg protrusions, even the nipples, especially on chin instruments, not for appearance but for practicality.
