With the sound post given the fix condition you may hold that structural part in any direction when you make your FEA calculations the result is always correct.

Not if the premise is incorrect.

So, you cannot do with the end blocks since they are fixed to each other. They do not move in relation to each other.

That is also incorrect.

David I refere to what scientist do, Gough is one off them

Hah! I'll bet I've spent more time talking with Gough than you have.
Same with most of the other scientists involved in violin research. :P

"A man's got to know his limitations." Let's see, was it Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Churchill, or Johnny Appleseed who said that?

I just realized that, just like some politicians, who believe that all publicity is good, a person can get his name mentioned many times on this forum, whether his contributions are useful, or frivolous. Maybe this thread should go on forever. Maybe everyone should get their name mentioned many times. I’ll start.

Burgess, Zygmuntowicz, Noon, Schmidt, … you know… all the famous violin makers.

No, it was a man who didn't talk Gough.

 I know very little about Schmidt, other than he has made some danged good knives. My favorite so far. Used his "bridge knife" earlier today to cut some purfling groove corners. :)

That's a bold statement

I'm only talking about the actual arching shape, not graduation or anything else.

Apart from making the job easier it seems obvious to me that knowing exactly what you are doing using templates is the ability assess what is what when making successive instruments and whether or not it is important tonally.

What points of reference do you have when assessing arching? Templates provide a comprehensive record. As I've said I think the top and back long arch profiles are probably more significant than the cross arch ones. But the cross-arch templates make arching much easier.

Counter with a certain classic Greco-Roman torsion hold, if you can find anything to grab.....   Observe below.

You have to admire the tenacity.

As soon as I saw the first post, I knew where things would be heading, as did many others. Somehow, people get sucked in, and it’s hard to get off the merry go round.

In a year or so, we can all do it again

However, if you happen to read this Mr Zuger, it might be more appropriate to expound your strongly held theories in the contemporary makers section. There, people can choose whether to engage in a discussion, or not, rather than trying to bait everyone en masse.

It is a relief that those who have not yet been through one of these multiple threads on this topic are now burned out, and we can get down to the much more entertaining comedy, insults, and ridicule.

I'd say Mr. Burgess' achievements speak for themselves and his methods, whatever they are, are certainly successful and consequently pretty much beyond criticism (not to be confused with evaluation and discussion).  A good guy to learn from whatever level we're at if you're able to winkle something out of him.

The personal satisfaction of tonal and artistic success (financial aside) speaks for itself regardless.  Don't you agree?

No, no, no!  You're still trying to use logic and reason.  We're past that point!  "Cry 'Havoc!", and let slip the dogs of satire!  " à la lanterne!",  "Strads without a lifetime of slavery!!", all that jazz.  Grab a torch and a pitchfork, already.   sarcasm.gif.4d09b1c4b585dff9669866270b520412.gif  ROFL.gif.381686c546d474bcd1629409956a7504.gif

Hey all...  I thank you all (most) for keeping responses within reasonable bounds, but I ametting tired of reviewing this thread multi times a day...  It's gone quite "circular". When things calm down (or heaven forbid heat up), I plan to lock the thread.  It will still be available should anyone wish to access it, but it will never again show up for review.

Best!

Jeffrey
