A plane for a mere 1600 NZD cannot be any good. For really good stuff go to www. workshopheaven.com; in their sales they now offer (a.o.) a Holtey A1 jointer plane at the reduced price of GBP 9.504 (was: 10.560)  (GBP to USD =1,20)

The peculiar plane pictured below, the Dr. Faustus scrubplane is even more expensive! It is only available from Mephistopheles, the salesman who works for 'workshophell'. We can all imagine the price he will demand!

Kickback comes from only one small area of the blade, avoiding this upper front corner at the tip hitting to wood first, all is good.

The same can be said of seatbelts and airbags in cars.  Just don't run into anything and they're not needed.

The adjustment limiters are there only because a regular user would deliver the saw into the shop to get it adjusted. Its the same idea than in printers for example. The factory gives it a setup with limited copies that can be printed, even if the printer would work otherwise still. This is true at the printers, and for me it sounds crazy, but thats the business idea. Sounds cheating?

Not true and a poor analogy.

I'm going back to using my planes and crappy plastic chainsaw, which was plenty heavy enough when carrying it for several kilometers yesterday.

Be safe!

Im not saying its bad to think safety. I have my own experience and I have selected the old that will last longer and feels better for me.
If a car shop guarantees 1.5 million kilometers for a new car with air bag, I can think of buying it, but this will not happen.
Also the use of it, I can never work with an electric car, I need to pull things up to 2000kg, and we have -30 celsius weathers.

The common sense is good for safety. Not trusting too much on technique or electricity, will be costly.

What will you do if Lie Nielsen or Veritas comes out with a chainsaw? :o

They'll likely be a hand-cranked affair. More control and safety that way; when you start hacking into meat and bone, most users will stop cranking.
