Northerner Posted February 27, 2023 Report Posted February 27, 2023 I would be grateful if you could share your thoughts on what you see here. If I should take photos from better angles, more up-close shots of any parts, please let me know. I can see both lower and upper corner blocks and, I think, through neck. LOB 353mm Many thanks!!!
Delabo Posted February 27, 2023 Report Posted February 27, 2023 I am not an expert, but I think its going to be either Salzkammergut (German) or English. I will plump for English, which probably means its the other one.
jacobsaunders Posted February 27, 2023 Report Posted February 27, 2023 It can be very difficult to separate such violins between cheap Saxon ones and violins from the Salzkammergut, first half of 19th C. It could be used as a transitional (i.e. post baroque) instrument for someone on a tight budget who would like to try playing “in original condition”
Northerner Posted February 28, 2023 Author Report Posted February 28, 2023 Thank you so much for your responses, Delabo and Jacob! I will update this post with more photos once the violin is opened for repair. Maybe that will shed some more light on its origin.
