I am sad to share the news that Mike Molnar has died.  He was a friend, colleague,  co-conspirator, and a mind to be respected.

Optical Mike we remember you well.

We had been commiserating with each other about our medical issues in the last couple of years, with his unfortunately involving cancer in multiple locations.  He had been undergoing chemo for a while, mostly making him ill but not halting the cancer... so the decision was made to stop treatment 2 weeks ago.  He was feeling better after that, and expected to be around for another 6 months... so this is quite a shock.

I'm really going to miss him; we had been trading emails several times a week for years, about everything from violins to ridiculing right-wing politics and whatever was going on with our personal lives, weather, whatever.  Like I said, I'm really going to miss him.

That's very sad news! :(  He's been an MN pillar - at least for as long as I can remember!

Here's hoping heaven has the best workshop - so Mike can continue his violin-making!

I'm very saddened and somewhat shocked to hear this.  I'm going to miss his friendship, his intellect, his emails and posts on Maestronet, and so much more...

Wherever you are Mike, travel well.

I met Mike at a violin workshop in 2016 (I think). A group of us attended every year until Covid. I enjoyed our friendship very much. Myself and his group of friends from the workshop group were lucky enough to say our good byes to him on Saturday. You'll be missed Mike.

Other brother Mike is gone?  wow that's a shock, I didn't expect that sad news.   What was it he always signed off with?  Stay tuned..

See you on the other side!

Very sad news, Mike was a pillar here and such great long standing member of our community who shared what he knew about the passion that we all shared together. He shall be truly missed, but I know that he is up among the stars exploring all the mysteries of the heavens above, just the way he always wanted to.

This is truly sad news, a real loss to the violin making world.

You will be greatly missed, Mike.

I had the honor of meeting him personally a few years ago here in Cremona, a truly exquisite and helpful person.

It will always be alive in my memories.

My condolences to his family and all who knew him personally.

I had only the chance to meet him here on MN. I always admired his endurance and patience in going step by step to his goals, in particular his ground color experiments. He was always open to share all his insights without any restrictions. Bye, Mike, we miss you.
