troy_proffitt Posted February 1, 2023 Report Posted February 1, 2023 (edited) My 11 yr old daughter just started learning to play the cello. We were renting a cello from her school, but it was of very low grade and we didn't want to keep paying the monthly charge. My parents live in Fredericksburg Texas and while we were visiting this last weekend, I spoke with one of the local families and asked if they knew of anyone that had an extra cello for sale. A call was made and we were told that she knew someone that had an extra cello she was willing to sell. Her name was Silke Hagee, wife of retired 4 star general Marine Commandant Mike Hagee! We met up at their house and she was an extremely wonderful woman that took her time to give my daughter a cello lesson and spoke a little about the history of the cello. She is in her mid 70's and she said she got this cello when she was 13. This Cello has followed her all over the world as she would find groups to play with everywhere her husband was stationed. She promised me she would write me a letter that told her story of the cello that we'll keep with it from now on. I would love to find out more information about the cello. I have attached an appraisal from 2003 as well as several pictures of the instrument. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, -Troy Edited February 1, 2023 by troy_proffitt
David Burgess Posted February 1, 2023 Report Posted February 1, 2023 Yup, that's an amazing story! Doesn't look like a bad cello though.
