Try not to limit the days. But go early to decide if more days makes sense. Does that make sense? I will have time limitations due to work, work and more work. But rarely is there a meeting in the west. I love my Cleveland haunts, but this will be close. My goal is just to try a few instruments. Maybe find a bow. Truly, I go there for a few handshakes and a hug. One discovers the deep end of the pool. Meet the locals. Wear a mask... ( ha ha )

I'll just add it to the life-long collection of regrets I like DAs advice about Wednesday - Barring a Traffic Accident on the Freeway, it is usually lighter traffic mid-week. Will possibly be west of 405 the beginning of the week. South of Anaheim later in the week. We do not have to stay late, but if there is a dinner involved, bring cash. Rico Suave
I haven't purchased admission ticket(s) yet - better to buy on-line or at the door? I plan on arriving early (traffic dies down around 9:30 AM) and staying all day. "NLB" is North Long Beach (710/91 Fwy), btw.
Michael Szyper
Does anybody know whether taking pictures at the rare instrument exhibit is allowed? Many thanks!

Many thanks! Probably not. A phone camera is something that could be accidentally dropped on an instrument, and a regular camera swinging on a neck strap could be a hazard too. Play as many instruments as one is able. Curious as to what people like this year. As it turns out, I will have to work during the day, perform even, dammit... but later in the week, I will be very happy to meet up. Working west, I head south. Long Beach is one of my favorite areas. Lineage of great youth orchestra players, excellent food before this "fusion" crap. Highly underrated CSULB. Kids like Northridge and Fullerton. Got cash? Chapman or USC.

Rico Suave
Well... Tomorrow's the big day - my first visit to a VSA Convention. Hopefully, I'll be able to put a real face to some of the on-line Avatars.

Rico Suave
Impressions: I left home after morning traffic died down around 9:45. I stayed until 7 waiting for evening traffic to die down. The Vendor's Hall was nearest to the Registration Desk, so that started off the day. About what I expected; Everyone was very nice and willing to chat. The New Makers Hall was a little smaller than I anticipated, but was very nice to see the examples of other contemporary Makers work displayed. After attending Mr. Kass' presentation on the Guarani Family, being able to inspect their instruments displayed in the Rare Instruments Hall was a real treat. Unexpected Benni: by going on Wednesday, the Admission Price included an invitation to join in on the Association Business Buffet Luncheon. I was only able to Identify 2 Luminaries by sight; Joe Robson and Rodney Mohr. Generally, a good time was had by all.

Navyasw02
What a great event. I played tons of violins and violas in the competition room today and a few more in the new instrument room. The new instrument room was a little underwhelming, but the competition room was very worthwhile.

Already the single instrument of Jordan Hess, an almost non antiqued early 40‘s dG model was enough to make this room overwhelming to me. The woodwork was so courageous rough… really refreshing to my eyes. Not to forget all the other great makers there. The new instrument exhibit was as important to me as the rare instrument exhibit. All in all I gained a ton of knowledge there. Many thanks to the VSA and all the participants/volunteers who made this happen!

The newer instrument room had lower ceilings. ( As did the old instrument room. ) More a meeting room than a ballroom. The competition room was a high ceiling ballroom.
