Hi,

Since getting a new grip for this bow, I've noticed a dent appear that I don't think was there before:

Is this a concern for the value of the bow or for the condition? Does it need to repaired in some way or have a new grip put on?

Finger nails can do tremendous damage. It is interesting to see it create such a deep groove.

It does drop the value of the bow. Stop playing the bow before replacing the thumb grip at the least. Unless you have an engagement, right?

A classic case of nail damage. This is why bows have the thumb grip, to help prevent this.

If you keep using a bow when the hair gets long, the grip is no longer reached, and the nail wears through the stick.
Using a worn out thumb grip, the same occurs.
