ingeliba Posted August 13, 2022 Report Posted August 13, 2022 (edited) Hi, Since getting a new grip for this bow, I've noticed a dent appear that I don't think was there before: Is this a concern for the value of the bow or for the condition? Does it need to repaired in some way or have a new grip put on? Bow is JA Lamy Edited August 13, 2022 by ingeliba heic to jpg
Mr. Bean Posted August 13, 2022 Report Posted August 13, 2022 It may already have been there, covered by the old grip!
GoPractice Posted August 13, 2022 Report Posted August 13, 2022 Finger nails can do tremendous damage. It is interesting to see it create such a deep groove. It does drop the value of the bow. Stop playing the bow before replacing the thumb grip at the least. Unless you have an engagement, right?
Mark Norfleet Posted August 13, 2022 Report Posted August 13, 2022 How long ago did you get the new grip? Months or decades...?
Wood Butcher Posted August 13, 2022 Report Posted August 13, 2022 A classic case of nail damage. This is why bows have the thumb grip, to help prevent this. If you keep using a bow when the hair gets long, the grip is no longer reached, and the nail wears through the stick. Using a worn out thumb grip, the same occurs.
Guido Posted August 13, 2022 Report Posted August 13, 2022 This is an extreme case of nail damage - it is unusually deep. It can and should be filled by a competent bow restorer.
