tigrhawk Posted July 2, 2022 Report Posted July 2, 2022 I recently acquired an antique 4/4 violin which appears to be 'homemade' but would like to know more and if it's worth anything? Thank you, Andy
Eloffe Posted July 2, 2022 Report Posted July 2, 2022 Might be worth playing with a good set of strings
jacobsaunders Posted July 2, 2022 Report Posted July 2, 2022 It certainly isn't worth anything Looks like a late 19th Schönbach fiddle that some incompetent DIY bod has "dovetailed" a replacement head onto

RolandS Posted July 2, 2022 Report Posted July 2, 2022 Ever seen such chin rest before? On that location? What might that mean?

Dr. Mark Posted July 2, 2022 Report Posted July 2, 2022 1 minute ago, jacobsaunders said: or someone who plays side-saddle ...or it belonged to some Ozark fiddler who learned to play from his grandaddy.

Spelman Posted July 2, 2022 Report Posted July 2, 2022 No, that's just what old chinrests looked like...not sure what you mean by "mirrored?"
Ron1 Posted July 3, 2022 Report Posted July 3, 2022 My admittedly untrained eye tells me someone put a horrendous replacement neck/head on an otherwise decent box, and finished the whole with a terrible black "antiqueing" treatment.
