Reddragon2002
Inherited this violin from my husband’s grandfather and stored it for years and then I had it restored. I believe it’s a Markie…what do you all think?
jacobsaunders
Yes a Markneukirchen area Dutzendarbeit. It appears to have originally had a dark varnish, which has been washed off

Reddragon2002
Thank you! My husband was secretly hoping it was a Stainer any guesses on the age and value? It’s a family heirloom so it’s not going anywhere and I thought about learning to play This site has been very helpful in educating me about violins…there’s a lot to learn! Since the varnish has been striped, I think you will find that it scarcely has a commercial value as an antique, rather it’s value is for you as an “heirloom”, so I hope you enjoy your violin lessons! deans
As far as learning to play, this isn't really a good candidate. The nut, fingerboard, pegs all look like they would lead to frustration. Probably also some dimension problems associated with the neck/neck set. Rather than try to get these things fixed I would say go to a shop and get set up with something that's ready to go for a beginner.
