gwie
Violin, viola, and cello teachers! If you have a student who would love the opportunity to spend a week preparing a movement of a solo concerto or show piece together with an orchestra and performing a public concert, I have a few spots remaining for my Solo Performance with Orchestra Program at the Choate Summer Music Festival from June 27th-July2nd, 2022. We're in Wallingford, Connecticut, about a twenty minute drive north of Yale University in New Haven. Students have a daily private lesson, performance classes, workshops on musician health and practice strategy, as well as rehearsals with the orchestral principals every day and with the full orchestra later in the week. This is not a competition of any sort, and students of all levels can participate. Over the past decade of teaching this program, we've had youngsters play everything from Vivaldi A Minor and Seitz Concertos to Sarasate, Lalo, Bruch, Saint-Saens, and Barber! We are a small festival with schedules that are customized to suit each student's individual technical and musical needs. We're delighted to be back in-person after a two-year hiatus because of the global pandemic. Note that we have numerous measures in place for the health and safety of all participating students and campus visitors, and all our activities take place in the beautiful new Ann and George Colony Hall at the Paul Mellon Arts Center (PMAC), which features a 1000+ seat concert hall, recital hall, and numerous practice rooms. Our festival artist faculty this summer includes Artemis Simerson (Assistant Concertmaster, New Haven Symphony), Mary Ellen Goree (Principal Violin II, San Antonio Symphony), and Warren Hagerty (Principal Cello, Pacific Symphony). For more information, please see our website at: https://www.summermusicfestival.us/ Since we're not that far out from the festival start date, interested students/families can contact me directly for assistance with registration, and also to answer any questions you might have about the experience. Looking forward to working with a few more young artists in the program this summer!
