Inked purfling

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of making a violin which is very much in the early C18th English style, as some of these had inked on purfling I was pondering if I should have a go at that. Has anyone tried this? What ink? Do you scratch the line and then ink it or just go straight in with a pen in some sort of guage? Should be amusing and also I will probably distress it so the lines are completely missing in places - showing clearly what's been done!

I'm thinking something like the old fashioned ruling pen in a guage type thing. As you say, freehand would be a mess!
