From the trailer, a film by Ina Weisse - Das Vorspiel- here: https://slippedisc.com/2022/04/how-merciless-is-your-violin-teacher/ I have seen more than a few teachers like this.... Art imitating life? I would guess this behavior doesn't fly now, but we keep hearing stories on Mnet of "mercilesss" teachers (and worse)...

Nevertheless, the trailer looks interesting. How many times did I miss the bus or carpool as a youth? A perfectly reasonable excuse, imho. :P

The message still seems to be that this kind of abuse in the cause of artistic "excellence" is some way a good thing.

Agree, hasn't changed as much as I thought it might have changed.  Has anyone seeen this? Does it open in the States?

Do not want to comment on a film I have not seen but the the trailer is interesting. Thank you for the heads up!

Love the colors. I think of places I have been hyper aware of the weather, environs. Seattle, London, Northern Germany. Yes, we practice through winter for an array of auditions in the spring. The lighting...

On the second viewing, what might strike some of us is the disconnect between the teacher saying there is not enough practice and the mother remarking that he practices four hours a day.

Miscommunication has been a basis for some very fine cinema, often bittersweet. The layers of it... unravels with frustrations.

There are exceptional students and exceptional teachers. Ms Mutter is often discussed as a prominent artist, recently teacher. Ms Kyung- wha Chung discussed less so here but also performer/ teacher... As a peer in their age bracket and nothing else in common, I fear them.

Good cinema will be one where the viewpoints of many are revealed. and hopefully with some complexity. Yes, look forward to it. I did purchase a european dvd player and an asian dvd player to play other region players, the old school way. Hopefully we can stream movies from other locales.

If one can judge from the books I. Wagner Producing Excellence and Min Kym Gone (largely about her life before her Strad was stolen at Euston), many parents respect a strict approach from a violin teacher, provided that teacher has a track record of producing successful students.

Does a greater tolerance for strict teaching methods assist China and Korea in producing able young performers?

After seeing the trailer, I am interested in watching this movie. I like the when the boy asked his mom that I want to have a dog and she replied you already have one. Violin is your dog. When I was searching for this https://edubirdie.org/edubirdie-legit/ website to read reviews for Edubiride, I found your post as well and I am getting bored at home and want to see the movie. That is why I took interest in your post.
