Thanks for the reply, Dwight.

Though I don't believe that shop is associated with Josef Bearden. I think they simply share the same name.

It's my understanding that there are phonebook-sized directories of old luthiers. I don't happen to have one, but wonder if anyone else might... and have anything on Josef Bearden.

The Wenburg dictionary list 5 makers named Bearden on page 24, none of whom were named "Josef"

This really surprises me.

Wasn’t Wenbergs Book as a reference just good for your famous dustbin?

Does anyone have information on a luthier named Josef Bearden?

Active in the 1980s, I believe. But that's about all I've got.

Are you asking in reference to the cello that's for sale in the Denver area? IIRC the label says Chicago1995, but I don't know anything further. I've been aware of the St Louis Beardens most of my life, but no Josef connected to them. So far, here today,  gone tomorrow...

Hi Michael. No, not asking in regards to that cello. Though I'm guessing it's the same maker.

My brother has a violin with a Josef Bearden label. A very decent, playable fiddle that I've probably spent hundreds of hours playing over the years.

So I've always been curious about Josef Bearden's back story, and even contacted the shop in St. Louis years ago. But they never responded.
