MikeC Posted March 19, 2022 Report Posted March 19, 2022 https://www.internationalviolin.com/ They have a good selection of tools and supplies.
David Rosales Posted March 19, 2022 Report Posted March 19, 2022 These are the sources of tonewood I’ve been able to compile. Keep in mind, I’m located in the US. My personal opinion as a complete novice who hasn’t even really started making his first instrument is that it’s probably best to source wood from other maestronet users if you can. Tonewood Neck, Back, and Ribs Only https://www.northridgehardwoods.com/ Spruce Tops Only https://alaskawoods.com/alaska-woods-shop/ Complete Sets http://www.adirondackspruce.com/orchestral-wood http://www.atelierduviolon.com/m.violin_tonewood.html https://www.carpathiantonewood.com/shop/ https://www.metmusic.com/ Maestronet users selling wood: SingingTree Tonewood kevin Prestwich GranaryTree charliemaine Graybeerd duane88 - ($100 + shipping for box with all parts for violin minus FB and fittings) Other Sources: https://dov-music.com/collections/violin-tonewood https://www.violins.ca/supplies/violin_tonewood.html https://atlanticviolinsupplies.com/Tools.asp#ViolinMakingWoods
CFMartin Posted March 19, 2022 Report Posted March 19, 2022 This needs to be made into a stickie for us to be able to go and refer to the different links!

MikeC Posted March 20, 2022 Report Posted March 20, 2022 You must have better Chinese finger planes than the ones I got. They require a lot of work to make them usable and I much prefer the Ibex over them.
scordatura Posted March 21, 2022 Report Posted March 21, 2022 I would suggest Rauch Tonewoods. He has some very nice wood and purfling for sale. https://rauchtonewood.com/

MikeC Posted March 21, 2022 Report Posted March 21, 2022 Not specifically instrument related but here's one curlymaplewood.com
FiddleDoug Posted March 21, 2022 Report Posted March 21, 2022 Howard Core is a good supplier. Some tools can also be found at places like Woodcraft, or Rockler.
waldguy Posted March 22, 2022 Report Posted March 22, 2022 Spruce tops from Canada here, reasonably priced. http://www.larrystamm.com/

What's the secret to opening up with HC? They ignored my request, eventho' I have a Resale Cert. JSB Wholesale and International Violin were no problem, and I miss International Luthiers Supply. I purchased a lot of Carving Tools from Frank Mittermier, Inc. before the Dastra Tool Line was acquired by Diefenbacher. https://diefenbacher.com/dastra-woodworking-tools/
