Is this an Ernst Kreusler

Recommended Posts

Legit dealer, also revoices, says it was from 1900-1910.  Does this look like a Kreusler violin?  Thank you! I apologize if you ask a question and I don’t answer - I guess as a new member I can only make one post a day.  Anyone know how long that lasts?

The body is Markneukirchen/Schönbach cottage industry from the early 20th century, the scroll probably a crudely made contemporary replacement, label and brand bogus.

Sculpture academy of Kitsch, probably PRoC.

Its a perfect example of an Ernst Kreusler. I have recently sold a Kreusler cello and Kreusler is a German trade name. I have also seen a few grades of Kreusler and this is the better grade of the brand. Retail value between $800-$1200

Fully agree, except retail value varies a lot. Many shops routinely ask over $5k for better than average German trade violins of the period.

They price them that way with no intention of selling them to make their cheaper Chinese violins sound like bargains, except when you price the German violins for their fair value much cheaper, the Chinese violins are more expensive and not any better.

Wasn't Ernst Kreusler a player, not a maker, or is that Fritz Kreisler

These names were deliberately made up to be confused with some reknown. OTOH it sheds some light on the reasons why some people still believe in the existence of a Dresden or Leipzig school and the like.

If this was the better grade I don’t want to see the lower.B)
