What do you think of this violin?

I can't answer for its age or geographical origin, but I would very much doubt that someone who can make such a mess of the purfling corners could also produce such a professional scroll.

So the neck is either a bought-in job for an amateur who didn't fancy making a neck, or a later replacement.

One thing we can say with certainty is that no part of this violin relates to Carlo Tononi.

On balance I would say it's the work of an educated but not very skilled amateur. The bits that don't need expertise - the choice and layout of wood and the varnish - are very nice.

It was for sale so I didn’t play it.  It sold for over $3,000

Are you the seller?   If so, playing it and posting a video in your ad seldom hurts, unless it sounds bloody awful.

Yup.  That's a match.  Good catch, thanks.  :)
