Canon87
Supposed to be from the late 1700’s. Let me know, thanks.

Those corners are 'school of hamfist' and that button is pretty interesting.
Canon87
Supposed to be Italian, do you think it is or German?
Rue
I dunno...I'd think it looks more 'rushed' than amateur. I'm goin' with just another example of dutzenarbeit...
martin swan
I can't answer for its age or geographical origin, but I would very much doubt that someone who can make such a mess of the purfling corners could also produce such a professional scroll. So the neck is either a bought-in job for an amateur who didn't fancy making a neck, or a later replacement. One thing we can say with certainty is that no part of this violin relates to Carlo Tononi. On balance I would say it's the work of an educated but not very skilled amateur. The bits that don't need expertise - the choice and layout of wood and the varnish - are very nice.
avandesande
Perhaps with the tiny button it was baroque made and then a new neck put on it instead of a graft? Disclaimer: I always get stuff wrong when guessing about old violins.

Looks composite, stripped and revarnished, maybe somewhere in the Carpathian region.

If so, playing it and posting a video in your ad seldom hurts, unless it sounds bloody awful. 21 minutes ago, Richf said: You mean like here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/115368941041 ? Yup.
