Danish Fiddler Jakob
Greetings. I was hoping to get some information on a violin i just bought. It is a German violin labelled Theodor Kreutzer. First of all i would like to know if anyone here knows this maker and secondly what kind of quality instruments he/they produced. The violin seems to be in pretty good condition besides from some minor scratches. To me it looks like it is well made, but i am no expert, so it would be nice to have your opinion on this violin. Finally if it is at all possible it would be nice to know what price range this violin might be in (im not selling it but it would be nice to know if i have to pay extra attention). I will look forward to see if anyone has some inputs. Pictures in the attached pdf. Best regards Jakob Theodor Kreutzer 1956.pdf Edited January 12, 2022 by Danish Fiddler Jakob
Spelman
I'm not terribly qualified to comment on the violin but I have to say that Danish fiddling is awesome. Kristian Bugge, Kiristine Sand, Henrik Jansberg, et al. are amazing musicians (and really good people).

Shelbow
I also had to crop them because they were too big to post. A lesson for everyone, keep the file size under 2mb each and you will be Ok.

Theodor Kreutzer most probably was the name of an importer. There was a Kreutzer family in Brno/Czechoslowakia, possibly he was related to them, or it was just a made up trade name like it was very common. "He" didn't make the violin for sure, which looks to me like a pre-war Markneukirchen/Schönbach trade instrument of a better quality. The numbers of the year at the lable look very wobbly, they could be well added later, or were just the date of the import, not the making. Compare what similar instruments might cost in your region and you'll get a rough idea of the value.
Brad Dorsey
Theodor Kreutzer is not listed in the Henley or Jalovec books, so it is almost certainly a trade name -- not a real maker. "Theodor Kreutzer" violins were offered for sale in a 1929 catalog published by the Grossman Music Company of Cleveland, Ohio. It listed Stainer, Stradivarius and Guarnerius models priced from $35 to $86,
