violinnewb
My parents once bought me a pair of designer sneakers from the swap meet. My friends laughed at my "Mike" shoes. At least they got the swoosh in the right direction. Just do it!

Violadamore
Here's an interesting site detailing an exhibition on art fraud. It includes two audio recordings comparing a Strad-labeled Markie (they bought it from eBay, for $119.99) with the Lady Tennant Strad. http://treasuresontrial.winterthur.org/ http://treasuresontrial.winterthur.org/intent/stradivarius/

The real Strad is recorded with much more reverb and equalizing than the fake, easily to tell just by hearing. So what do they need to hide? Rue
Regarding Scotch...and cheese... https://www.foodandwine.com/news/gruyere-cheese-origin-label-ruling Scotch whiskey can legally only be labeled as Scotch...if it's from Scotland. Let's sue Egypt!!! Too bad for the gruyere though...

It sounds to me like another form of faking art just got uncovered. It also sounded like they got a nice bargain on eBay.

To be clear, at the recording the Strad "copy" sounds like crap, not like a bargain. But it's up to speculations if that's just deliberately done this way by playing and recording. But it's up to speculations if that's just deliberately done this way by playing and recording. Given what Markies have been selling for over the last few years, it's a bargain. As I can see in Photoshop, they also did a reasonable setup on it, with Evahs and a cut bridge. Both recordings were played by Xiang Gao. I suspect that the sound processing difference is because the Strad was on a clip taken from one of his concert performances (professionally recorded in a hall) while he had the Lady Tennant on loan, but the Markie was recorded raw in a practice room somewhere. I didn't hear a million dollar difference in the sound. I did hear the Markie screech more noticeably on the E string. I had to listen closer to hear that on the Strad, but can't guarantee that the difference wasn't a miking and processing artifact.

He's consciously steering it toward bad instead of good. I can almost hear him say listen how bad it sounds He sort of did exactly that in the intro. I did feel that the Strad sounds better, but i disagree with how much should be paid for that improvement.
