John Alexander
I am looking for a set of carved pegs for my upcoming violin restoration. Is there a recommended US supplier?
duane88
what level/quality?
John Alexander
Professional grade. I do not want to get something that might present a problem for my luthier.
John Alexander
Might be nice to have a matching tailpiece. I am looking for boxwood with white accent.
Wood Butcher
I'd suggest you get the restorer to order the pegs, tailpiece, endbutton, chinrest etc. for you. If bought separately, the wood may not match, even if it is the same species. Tempel are a good make, I'm sure you can get them from different places too. Each country seems to have its own specialist go to guy, but if we are talking of carved boxwood, expect the costs to be considerable. arglebargle
Yeah."My luthier" should be able to meet your needs and have the connections to get them. Ask your luthier?
John Alexander
Yes. I agree it would be best for my luthier to furnish the fittings. Thanks.

I may have even hugged him once or twice, during fleeting moments of un-manlilike weakness.

John Alexander
Melvin, that is beautiful work. I only wish I had the skill to do it. I can appreciate the craftsmanship but I’ve never carved anything beyond a roast.
Rue
Ditto! Did you free-hand carve the ornamentation?

Yes....I had intended to sub the work to a top end wood carver and then covid intervened....I did all the work in a day including making little carving tools...Had to get into the zone...Seemed easy on the day but can't remember how I did it....
