Grizzlie
Hello everyone, I'm flying into T.O. (and more specifically Etobicoke) mid December with children for a couple of weeks and I'm looking around to rent or borrow a cello 1/4 size for my son to continue his music school practice. Anybody have any experience, pointers, info, etc that may help me out?
Urban Luthier
Not sure who does rentals these days but have a look at The Soundpost and Remenyi. Both are downtown Toronto.
Televet
If all else fails there is always Long and McQuade. They have a big rental fleet and shops everywhere
Grizzlie
Just hit them up now. Currently none available but I'm to phone in a week before expected visit and they'll see if they can bring something.

Grizzlie
Wanted to followup with our experience for future readers. We ended up going with Long & McQuade. Rented a Yamaha VC5 cello in 1/4 size + softcase + bow + new cake of Hidersine rosin. Rental was 47 CAD for a month (including the extra but not obligatory $2 insurance, but I figured it was better to have). They returned a portion of the fee as we returned the instrument a few days early. Pickup was at their Bloor location, dropoff was at a Mississauga location. Both transactions were hassle-free and staff were super helpful and very polite. The instrument itself was in great, near-mint condition (perhaps the smaller sizes don't get used/borrowed that much?), and had a pleasant sound. Overall, great success.
